Back in 2010, the founder of Optimerial, Dr. Stephan Gadau, came across a groundbreaking publication on acoustic metamaterials. It presented an algorithm that calculates the optimal distribution of homogeneous materials with different densities. This distribution makes it possible to generate a precisely defined spectrum of resonance frequencies. As a numericist, Dr. Gadau was fascinated by the elegance of this algorithm - a brilliant combination of mathematical concepts that solve concrete problems in applied mathematics.

With growing interest, he recognized the diverse practical applications of this algorithm and put it into practice. The development process was demanding, as several software libraries had to be combined. But the effort paid off: the calculation process could be followed step by step while the algorithm arrived at an optimal solution from an initial configuration. The results were often surprising - optimal solutions that would hardly have been possible to achieve using purely intuitive methods.

After a long break, Stephan returned to the project of making the algorithm suitable for practical use. In order to exploit its full potential, in 2024 he finally founded Optimerial - with the aim of developing groundbreaking materials with exceptional resonance properties.
